What is a Dealer?

From the preparation of the tables to the payment of winnings, the dealer or the croupière is responsible for the entire process of casino games of chance, such as poker, roulette, blackjack, or baccarat. He confidently guides the guests and organizes the course of the game while radiating the glamorous image of the casino.

Difference Between a Dealer and a Poker Dealer

Both a dealer and a poker dealer act as organizers of casino games. The most significant difference is that a dealer is directly involved in the game. In contrast, the dealer directs, observes, and coordinates from the outside.  

The dealer specializes in poker, while the dealer also takes over the game management of other games. If you want to become a poker dealer, you must first complete the dealer training.

What Does a Dealer Do?

The dealer or the croupière organizes the course of games in a casino. In the beginning, this includes preparing the tables, for example, by getting the chips ready or shuffling the cards. He or she welcomes the guests and explains the rules of the game.

During the game, the dealer is responsible for organizing a proper course of play. For example, he/she places the chips in response to the guests' announcements and is responsible for the roulette wheel. The dealer memorizes the number combinations of the guests, calculates payout odds, and finally pays out winnings.

As a game master, he also assumes a supervisory function so that an error-free and smooth game can take place. The dealer assists the guests with words and deeds but must also maintain a professional strictness because inappropriate behavior or cheating is, of course, not tolerated in a reputable casino.

Where Can a Dealer Work?

A land-based casino is usually considered as the place of work. In the meantime, however, online casinos are also commonplace, where professional dealers work and instruct games via video transmission. Another possibility is mobile casinos, which are rented, for example, for private casino parties. The dealer is therefore active at changing locations.

What Does a Casino Dealer Earn?

Since it is not state-recognized training, there are no uniform guidelines for the dealer profession in India. The training itself is usually not reimbursed, especially if it is a course at a school.

The income as an employee, therefore, depends heavily on the employer and the place of residence. Starting salaries can be around 177.076,57 rupees gross per month. Advancements in the position can significantly more, and as a freelance dealer, an income of around 442.691,42 rupees per month is entirely possible.

An additional, lucrative source of income for dealers and poker dealers is also the tip. According to a points system, employees are paid a share of the tronc, the tip fund into which generous casino guests pay.
